Quote: "Knox may be the name of an unflavored gelatin, but it's now also
the name of a musician of the highest order."
For my next act, ladies and gentlemen, I will not write a review but will,
instead, send each and every one of you a copy of Music for Pleasure, an
oh-so-welcome-and-refreshing example of truth in advertising.
Not to mention an example of exquisite songsmithing, production, musicianship
... hell, even the bloody album cover is cool.
When it comes to describing the sound one experiences upon pressing the "Play"
button, suffice it to say that while lashings of rockabilly may ornament this
record the real steam in the engine comes from astute and never-derivative nods
to the unabashed joyous pop rock of Nick Lowe, Lennon & McCartney and Crowded
House.
Like a box of chocolates, each of these songs is a confection and you don't give
a good damn about what you're gonna get next -- you Just. Want. To. Eat.
And this isn't a case of great tune, bad lyrics. Knox isn't just singing the Ba-Cr
volume of Encyclopedia Britannica to the tune of "Let it Be."
When you encounter lyrics such as:
I want to take your money
I want to take your money
I want to take your money and run ...
I'll grab your pocket book and take a look
I could take your comb and become a crook
or "When your thirst becomes a cry, I'll take the Big Dipper from the sky and
fill it till the ocean's dry," you just have to nod your head and say, "Well
done, sir."
Knox may be the name of an unflavored gelatin, but it's now also the name of a
musician of the highest order, who creates a wonderfully complex assortment of
people's pop music and who will, with any luck, be paying the rent by doing so
for many years to come.

'Music for Pleasure' Reviews
With his knack for sing-along melodies, rocking arrangements and
decidedly delightful studio effects, Knox has completed 'Music for Pleasure', to
winning effect. Debra B.; NY, NY.
(Knox)...can definitely play, (and) he does have talent. Bill Coury HEAR

Okay, I
admit this is the first I've heard of or to listened to Knox. If anything, the
write-ups about it is actually what made me give this a spin. Truth be told,
Knox's pop-rock songs aren't anything earth-shattering, but just the fact that
he's willing to put forth such a raw effort is heartening. There are some truly
beautiful moments here. I would say he reminds me of Paul Westerberg, Warren
Zevon, and a little of the Stone Roses. It’s an easy, enjoyable listen.
Overall, I like it. It’s true that this one isn't likely to win many new
converts, but that's only because it’s a self release and a lot of people
unfortunately probably won't ever get to hear this. Pete H; Seattle, WA I received the Music For
Pleasure a few days ago now, and to be totally honest I broke down in tears when
I opened the envelope. I know how long it took to make, and I know how many
dreams have been tied up in its production. I actually couldn't bring myself to
listen to it for about three days. I was so nervous. Knoxie has done it. This is
the album I always wanted him to make. This is the album I would have made if I
had his talent. It’s great. Singa-long-brilliant. Can I play tambourine at your

I bought
this album a while ago. I was looking for something entirely new when I found
'Music For Pleasure'. After I got it home and put it into my cd player, it
hasn't left my cd player for weeks. And I still love every song. Knox is one of
those extremely rare talents who can get away with putting 10 diverse tracks on
an album and have it sound complete. David M; Kent, WA. Love the CD! 'Put Your
Money Where Your Mouth Is' and 'I Want to Take Your Money & Run' are my
favorites! Keep up the good work. Barte M; Ontario, CA.
