SINGER/SONGWRITER KNOX SET TO SELF RELEASE MUSIC FOR PLEASURE
Singer/songwriter Knox is excited to announce the release his first CD, Music
for Pleasure, in Sept., 2005.
Knox
primarily grew up in Seattle, yet has lived in places all over the world including Japan,
Taiwan, England, Germany and France. He now hails from Burien, and first came
to the Seattle Music Scene in 2001. After a spate of several successful gigs,
demand for a record became clear. The beginning of ‘Music for Pleasure’ had
already been penned, yet several years still had to pass before the record came
to fruition.
“I must
have finished this record 3 to 4 times,” claims Knox, “even after 8 years of
life, they still get to me. I love them (the songs) and as I have been
listening to the final mixes, I can’t help but get excited.” It wasn’t until
Knox brought the files to Trevor Johnson, a polished mix engineer and producer
from Nashville, that the project came together. “Trevor is the real deal. I
worked with 9 other engineers before we met and he squeezed the passion out of
the recordings and made them fully come to life. I simply can’t sing his
praises enough, although it might be fun to try.”
Knox has
played several great shows already this year, including a recent benefit at the
Alki Bathhouse for the Army Emergency Relief. About 250 people attended
the event, which raised a little over $750.00 for the AER. The show achieved greater
exposure for Knox, who has been building a loyal following while
receiving rave reviews from listeners.
“What
excited me right off the bat about Knox,” explains listener Jeff Stall, “was the
songs. He has been blessed with an incredible ability to write catchy tunes.
Knox writes about the things we all go through and think about and feel on a
daily basis in ways that reach across the typical genres of music and appeal to
everyone. He is country, he is pop, he is alternative, he is Americana, he is
rock.” The CD's release will be followed by a regional tour that will take Knox
and his band through the rest of 2005.
“I love
songwriting,” Knox explains, “because it doesn’t let me off the hook. If
something is sad, I’ll say it. If something is beautiful, then I hope I can
describe it in a way that can be seen. But the most important thing for me is
to be brutally honest and respond to the thoughts that plague me in the middle
of the night. The songs on Music for Pleasure took me by the neck and
demanded to be written.” Knox has been compared as a vocalist to Chris Isaac,
Elvis Costello and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, and his songwriting has been labeled
“top-notch” by listeners from all over the Pacific Northwest.
Music For Pleasure will be self-released on September
1st 2005.
